Israel :

Yesterday we were all sure then within 3-4 months there will be an elections in Israel. The head of the labour party, Ehud Barak (who isn’t a MP by the way), announced that he and most of his party members will object the vote of confidence in the current government. The vote will be today, Wednesday, in the Knesset (Israeli parliament).

The Prime Minister, Ehud Olmert, said that anyone who will do so, will be fired. In that case, there will no coalition and the government couldn’t longer exist.
Early in the morning they managed to work something out so that they all could keep their jobs. The leading party in the government, KADIMA, will hold primaries and in exchange the Labour ministers will not object in today’s vote.

Aren’t we all happy?

I guess no. The reason from the first place that Barak and his friends wanted to vote against was the last corruption story involving Prime Minister Olmert. Without too many details I’ll just mention that according to the press, he got money (in envelopes) from an American Jewish guy, Morris Talanski. In exchange he gave nothing basically. We don’t know all the facts but it seems that Olmert didn’t tell anyone about this money and perhaps even took it to his private possession.

Politics is amazing. Ronald Reagan once told that the best people aren’t in the government since if they were, the private sector would take them. I guess that this is what we have here. The second best people are doing the job (if not the third or the forth).

Your conclusion is true. In Uganda, we have a classic example of people who have been presidents (Idd amin) who have never gone beyond four classes of primary education but because, they can use the AK47 and capture power, they serve in public office. Currently, there leaders in our country who have never stepped in a classroom but are in public office making decisions affecting everyone including the learned fellows.

People in power will always find ways to appease and cover up for corruption even when the people they lead strong oppose it. Besides, its their decisions that move the country forward not that of the general public except during an election year.

Unfortunately politics plays a dominating role in our life and politics is always handled by the people who are not the best!!!
So the world spins around whims of Mugabes and Olmerts who sacrifice peace and goverence for the sake of power and money. Honesty no longer exists in the dictionary of Politics.
